Amtrak is making several upgrades at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station to improve the passenger experience, address long-term infrastructure needs of the nearly 100-year old building, and improve pedestrian mobility in and around the facility. The projects recently completed or currently underway include the renovation of the West Plaza on the 30th Street side of the station, restoration of the building façade, installation of new interior and exterior station signage, renovation of the retail area restooms and replacement of the 1930s-era elevator equipment.

Furthermore, Amtrak has partnered with the University City District to enhance the interior of the station by installing "living walls" onto the columns in the main concourse. The "living  walls" are joined by other plantings throughout the station. This project is a pilot, born out of the Philadelphia 30th Street Station District Plan to evaluate opportunities for station beautification.
