AMTRAK OUTLINES NEW YORK PENN STATION CONCOURSE DEVELOPMENT ENTITY
May 16, 2017
Amtrak President and CEO Wick Moorman testified before the New York State Assembly Standing Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions on May 11 in New York City. He outlined Amtrak’s plans for improving New York Penn Station and accelerating needed track renewal work.
Although Amtrak is still coordinating with Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) to determine the service implications of this summer’s track work, its completion in one intensive period will then allow Amtrak and partners to focus their efforts on projects including Moynihan Station and the rehabilitation of the East River Tunnels.
Wick also announced the creation of a new concourse development entity that will partner with the private sector to bring in world-class expertise to manage and improve Amtrak’s portion of Penn Station. Amtrak is also inviting LIRR and NJ Transit to join this entity, as a mechanism to collectively establish unified and joint management and operation across all three of the railroads’ concourses to drive improvements for all customers.
