FEDERAL RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION RELEASES NEC FUTURE RECORD OF DECISION
July 15, 2017
The Federal Railroad Administration has released the long-anticipated NEC FUTURE Record of Decision, a comprehensive plan for improvements to the Northeast Corridor rail line through 2040 and beyond.
“Amtrak applauds this landmark accomplishment,” said Stephen Gardner, Amtrak Executive Vice President, Planning, Technology and Public Affairs. “This is a major step towards the renewal and expansion of the Northeast Corridor that Amtrak has long advocated for and continues to prioritize.”
Amtrak is ready to build this infrastructure of the future. Amtrak continues to seek opportunities to develop high speed rail, while investing in near-term solutions to unlock major transportation bottlenecks. Additionally, we are working on projects along the corridor such as the Gateway Program, Portal Bridge and the Washington Union Station 2nd Century Plan.
As these projects advance, Amtrak looks forward to working with the Federal Railroad Administration and Northeast Corridor Commission on a Service Development Plan – beginning the hard work as all stakeholders come together to identify funding and phasing priorities to implement the full potential of NEC FUTURE.
